Individual Biographies


Eric Galm is Assistant Professor of Music at Trinity College, where he is also the coordinator for the music track of the Trinity in Trinidad Global Learning Site. He has lived, studied and traveled extensively throughout Brazil, and has conducted research in Cuba and Trinidad. Galm holds degrees in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan (Ph.D.) and Tufts (M.A.) universities, percussion performance from the University of Michigan (B.M.), and performance certificates from the Escola Brasileira de Musica and the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. His awards include a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Brazil, and the Marilla McDill Prize for Teaching Excellence at the Community Music Center of Boston. Galm's publications include an article about Brazilian percussion instruments in the Garland Encyclopedia of Percussion (co-authored with John K. Galm). In September of 2004, he founded the Trinity Samba Ensemble, which recently performed at the Intercollegiate Festival of African Music and Arts at Tufts University in Boston.
